Gone were the days when you had to wear baggy tops, and stretchy “Aladdin” pants while pregnant. In today’s day and age, dressing the bump and seeing it as a beautiful accessory is more important to a mommy.
As more shops are starting to have a maternity line where they design clothes that can fit pregnant mommies, we decided to survey 12 mommies to find out their considerations when buying maternity clothes and where they purchased them from. Keep reading for the 5 best shops for maternity clothes in Singapore!
Why You Should Trust Me
Hello! I’m Serene, a mom of a cheeky daughter and she’s turning 2 in Nov 2022!
My Pregnancy Challenges
I thoroughly enjoyed my pregnancy, embracing all the greats (the happy hormones), and the not-so-good (the evening sickness).
However, I definitely did not enjoy having to scramble for clothes that could fit my growing belly. I recall wearing my husband’s clothes so much that I didn’t feel like a woman at all… I wondered if I could even look decent enough to head out. It also didn’t help that I looked pretty bloated, and round, and… Let’s be real here – fat.
The Search for Maternity Clothes Begins
When I started losing my identity and felt gross, I decided to look for maternity clothes, so I could at least look a little more decent when going to work and heading out with my friends. I was aiming to look like Miss Universe, but I wanted clothes that could accommodate my growing belly, be worn at home and also some that could be work-friendly.
My taste for clothes and your taste of clothes will definitely differ. Hence, together with Nuevamae, we have surveyed 12 mommies, who shared their preferences for maternity clothes. Here, I compiled a list of places and brands that you could go to when buying maternity clothes. We hope this list can be helpful to you, in finding that dress, or that top, that could make you feel like you again.
How To Choose The Right Maternity Clothes
We surveyed 12 mommies and here are some of their considerations, in order of importance (from most important to least important).
- Do the clothes look trendy?
- If it is a dress, is it long enough to accommodate a growing bump, especially when the bump becomes bigger in the last trimester
- Does the material make me feel warm?
- Is it comfortable to wear for an entire day?
- Is the dress stretchable?
- Is it expensive?
- Is it nursing friendly?
- Can it be worn throughout 3 trimesters?
- Can it be worn postpartum?
- Can it be purchased conveniently in different parts of Singapore?
It appears that mommies are more concerned about dressing with the bump and how they look. I would definitely second that because prices of clothes are more or less similarly priced, and with the bump, not everything looks the nicest on us. One mommy even mentioned that typical maternity clothes made her look stumpy and fat.
With the aforementioned factors, here’s where to buy maternity clothes in Singapore to look fabulous!
Uniqlo
UNIQLO Most popular & conveniently found
Despite only selling maternity bottoms and undergarments, Uniqlo is our top favourite because their pants are insanely comfortable! Half of the mommies we surveyed own their leggings and work pants.
Personally, I have also purchased their maternity leggings, which I agree with the other mommies that they’re stretchable, comfortable and they can last through the last trimester.
On top of that, I bought their maternity jeans as well, because I simply cannot fit into my old jeans anymore. I love how stretchy their jeans are and when paired with a longer top, sometimes you don’t even appear to be wearing maternity jeans!
Another mommy recommended their maternity work pants, which was very comfortable to wear, and it allowed her to wear different tops alongside the pants. She did not need to stick to dresses during her last trimester.
I can see how people love Uniqlo simply because of their ease of purchase. They have outlets islandwide and that makes purchasing super convenient. However, be mindful that not all outlets have the full range of maternity clothes. The flagship store at 313 Somerset does have the full range if you would like to compare and try on the different designs.
Dear Collective, Jump Eat Cry & Love Bonito
Dear Collective
DEAR COLLECTIVE Most VERSATILE and trendiest
I personally own so many dresses from Dear Collective and I share the same sentiments with the other mommies. Their dresses are versatile as they are nursing-friendly.
Moreover, they can be worn from the first trimester to the last trimester because some of them come with sashes where you can adjust the waist area. Something that I liked about their dresses is their consistency in sizing. You can trust their sizing as they don’t defer much.
You can also try their clothes at their Harbourfront outlet!
Jump Eat Cry
JUMP EAT CRY Most VERSATILE and trendiest
Jump Eat Cry prides themselves with frequent new designs and clothes. Due to their popularity, their clothes tend to sell out very quickly! Something I love about their clothes would be that they can be worn for all occasions – they range from loungewear, to work, and to maternity shoots.
Unfortunately, they have moved out of their Punggol outlet and that means you can only purchase their clothes online. Good news is that you could at least return full priced items.
Love Bonito
LOVE, BONITO Most VERSATILE and trendiest
Love Bonito is up and rising with their new maternity line – Embrace. Mommies we surveyed mention that they found Love Bonito’s clothes trendy and versatile.
Not only are their clothes accommodating for the growing bump, it also looks great on them postpartum. This gives their clothes greater mileage.
Some of them found their clothes on the pricier side but were still willing to invest in them due to great quality and design. Another plus point would be that you could try their clothes on at any of their 5 outlets in Singapore. You will not need to second guess the sizing anymore!
H&M
H&M Most affordable
Affordability and convenience is what mommies love most about H&M. Apart from baby clothes, H&M also sells a huge range of maternity clothes. They range from work styles, to home styles, all under one roof.
Moreover, they tend to sell clothes in packs of 2, 3, and 5, making each piece much more affordable for everyone. You can also try their clothes in any of their 9 outlets in Singapore, and that’s a huge plus point!
Overall Thoughts on Maternity Clothes in Singapore
To dress the bump and look beautiful in the final trimester of your pregnancy may seem impossible. I recall donning my husband’s shirt and pants, just because I can no longer fit into mine anymore and didn’t bother dressing up at all.
I hope that this post here can inspire mommies to go all out and see this bump as an accessory! Reviewing these sites got me all excited about dressing the bump, if I do get pregnant again, haha!
To end off this post, I would like to give thanks to the sweetest mommies, who did the survey and made this review possible. Thank you mommies!
