Konny Baby Carrier Flex Summer Review: Snug, Safe, and Light

As a mother of two boys, I have tried four models of baby carriers over the last two years. After reflecting on my own experiences and the insights from 42 other mommies, I have decided to review the Konny Baby Carrier Flex Summer in this article.

I would recommend the Konny Baby Carrier Flex Summer to parents who are looking for a baby carrier that:
  • Has a snug and safe design
  • Is lightweight and breathable
  • Can adjust to fit growing babies and changing postpartum bodies

What to Look Out For

Considerations & Advice
Pie chart showing the top 3 considerations when purchasing a baby carrier

When choosing a baby carrier, many of the mommies we surveyed considered factors such as back support, baby’s security when inside, ease of use, and breathable fabric.

Between my husband and I, we prioritize different factors when it comes to baby carriers and so we prefer to use different ones. I think it is important that my baby feels secure inside the carrier and that the fabric is breathable since we live in a warm climate. As for my husband, back support is a priority because he would occasionally experience discomfort in his lower back.

Each caregiver may have different needs, so it’s important to review them before making a purchase. Further, it is worth noting these top pieces of advice from the mommies surveyed, besides the considerations above:

  • Don’t just choose your carrier by the brand – select one that meets both your and your baby’s needs.
  • If your budget allows, invest in a high-quality carrier.
  • Lightweight and portable carriers may be more convenient to bring with you when going out with your baby.

What Mommies Have to Say

Mommies’ Thoughts

Out of the 42 mommies surveyed, only one reported using a Konny Baby Carrier, while five others considered it but ultimately chose a different brand due to factors such as its non-adjustable sizing.

However, it is worth noting that the adjustable version of the Konny Baby Carrier was only recently launched in June 2022, so some mommies may not have had the opportunity to consider this option before making a purchase.

Like me, the mommy who used the Konny Baby Carrier Summer appreciated its lightweight and machine-washable material. She also preferred the support it provided for her and her baby after trying both the Tula and Konny carriers.

How I Feel About It

Personal Experience
Personal experience

When I started looking for a baby carrier, I found that most were too bulky and did not suit my petite frame. I eventually stumbled upon the Konny Baby Carrier Summer and was drawn to its snug design and lightweight material. However, I was hesitant to buy it because the size wasn’t adjustable.

In the end, I decided to purchase a second-hand piece and this turned out to be a great decision. My firstborn could only fit in the carrier for 4 months before outgrowing it. However, I still managed to make the best out of it. While my husband struggled to put our firstborn to sleep in his Ergobaby carrier, especially in the first 2 months when he was still so small, my firstborn would fall asleep in mine within a few minutes.

For my second child, I purchased the new adjustable version of the same carrier – the Konny Baby Carrier Flex Summer. The carrier has still been effective in putting my child to sleep. I also foresee using it for a longer time as I can loosen the straps as my child grows. I have already adjusted the size from the smallest setting when my child was a newborn to two sizes up at 4.5 months old. There are still 7 more settings that I can adjust upwards!

What Is Good?

Features
Ergonomic design

The Konny Baby Carrier is designed to evenly distribute the weight of your baby across your body, reducing stress on pressure points such as your back and shoulders. The carrier is also ergonomically designed to support your baby’s healthy hip development, as recognized by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute.

Snug design

The snug fit of the Konny Baby Carrier allows for skin-to-skin contact or “kangaroo care” which is beneficial for both the parent and baby. One of the key benefits of this is that it improves babies’ sleep, and this was something I observed with both of my babies after I used the carrier on them since they were newborns. Both of my babies fell asleep quickly in the carrier and were able to sleep through the night at an early age. Additionally, the snug design of the carrier is well-suited for my petite frame.

Safe

The Konny Baby Carrier has been designed with safety as a top priority. Even though the material is thin, Konny uses core spun yarn to ensure that you can support your baby securely. The fabric also meets strict Korean Certification standards for children’s underwear and is certified free of fluorescence or other harmful materials. As someone particularly concerned about safety, I was assured by the awards and certifications that Konny has received.

Simple to wear

The Konny Baby Carrier is worn like a T-shirt, without the need for wrapping or buckling. It is easy to put on by myself, another important consideration for many of the mommies surveyed.

Air-mesh fabric

The Konny Baby Carrier Flex Summer is made with air-mesh fabric that provides several benefits:

  • It cuts out 85% of harmful UV rays
  • It is 99.9% antibacterial
  • It is machine-washable
  • It is breathable, cooling and dries quickly
  • It is lightweight, weighing just ~160g
Adjustable

The Konny Baby Carrier Flex Summer and Konny Baby Carrier Flex are adjustable to accommodate a range of caregiver and baby sizes, as well as changing postpartum bodies. I can easily adjust the straps while my baby is still inside the carrier. I find the adjustable straps particularly useful for loosening and removing the carrier without startling my sleeping baby too.

What Is Not So Good?

Flaws
Difficult to put your baby in initially

It can be challenging to put your baby into the Konny Baby Carrier, particularly when you are first starting to use it or when your baby is in the newborn phase and seems delicate. However, as with most carriers, this becomes easier with practice. When I first started using the Konny Baby Carrier with my first child, I struggled a bit, but now I am much more skilled at putting my baby into the carrier. If you are unsure of how to use the Konny Baby Carrier, you can refer to the videos here.

Limitation in adjustability

The Konny Baby Carrier Flex Summer and Konny Baby Carrier Flex are both adjustable, but only to a certain extent. Konny offers two sizes for these carriers – XS to XL and M to 4XL. While the adjustable feature is useful for fitting growing babies and changing postpartum bodies, it may not be as suitable for caregivers who are of significantly different sizes. For example, if one caregiver is a size XS and another is a size 2XL, they would not be able to share the same carrier and would need to purchase both sizes.

As compared to my husband’s Ergobaby OMNI Breeze, which is advertised as the most breathable carrier among all Ergobaby carriers, I find the Konny Baby Carrier Flex Summer much more cooling for both the caregiver and baby.

The Konny Baby Carrier Flex Summer is also much lighter than both the Ergobaby OMNI Breeze and Tula Explore, thus lessening the load on the caregiver and making it easier to bring around in a diaper bag.

At a lower price, the Konny Baby Carrier Flex Summer only supports two carrying positions, but these also happen to be the two most commonly used positions by caregivers. It also does not have any storage pockets.

Overall Thoughts

Concluding Thoughts

Most of the mommies we surveyed did not use Konny Baby Carriers, but I resonated well with one piece of advice that many of them gave – to select a baby carrier based on your needs rather than just going with the brand. I am glad that I stumbled upon Konny and gave it a try even though it was not a popular brand among my friends.

I would recommend the Konny Baby Carrier Flex Summer to parents who are looking for a baby carrier that:

  • Has a snug and safe design
  • Is lightweight and breathable
  • Can adjust to fit growing babies and changing postpartum bodies

I hope that my experiences, along with the insights of the other mommies surveyed, provide you with the information you need to narrow down your options and make a more informed decision when purchasing a baby carrier.

To end off this post, I would like to give thanks to the sweetest mommies, who completed the survey amidst their busy schedules to make this review possible:
